SUMMARY
The exceptional sky of Montsec and the commitment to turn it into an element of tourist development meant that since 2013 it has been recognized internationally as one of the best skies in the world for astronomical observation and for enjoying of starlight. UNESCO’s “Man and Biosphere” (MaB) program certified the Montsec sky as a Tourist Destination and Starlight Reserve, accreditation that was renewed in 2017 and in 2022.
The Astronomical Park of Montsec is the basic pillar of research, training and dissemination of astronomy in Catalonia. L’Astronomic organizes the 9th Montsec Astronomy Festival with the aim of bringing science closer to young and old as a new form of tourism: Tourism of the Stars.
This year we commemorate the centenary of the birth of Joan Oró, the great promoter of the Montsec Astronomical Park project. The Generalitat de Catalunya has declared 2023 the Year of Joan Oró. For this reason, the Astronomy Festival 2023 is especially dedicated to a Catalan scientific reference who was decisive for our project to become a reality.
We invite you to enjoy this experience, where science and tourism are combined, with activities aimed at all ages: workshops, experiments, guided tours, concerts, among others, under the spectacular sky of Montsec.
