Next Friday, February 6, Montsec Astronomical Park reopens its doors to begin a 2026 season that promises to be historic. Located in Àger, in a privileged setting recognized as the best sky in Catalonia, the Astronomical Park returns with a renewed offer that combines scientific outreach, historical tribute, and preparation for the year’s major astronomical event: the solar eclipse in August.

Do you want to discover everything we have prepared for 2026? Here are the main highlights:
1. “Eclipse Target 2026”: the spectacle of the century
This year, all eyes are on August 12, 2026. At Montsec Astronomical Park we become the preparation center for this total solar eclipse.
– Live pedagogy: in our daytime family and general sessions, you will learn how to observe the phenomenon safely and which techniques to use.
– New projection “3CLIPSE”: starting in June, we premiere in the planetarium an immersive journey that explains the extraordinary triple eclipse (2026, 2027, and 2028) that will cross the Peninsula. A spectacular visual experience for all ages!
2. Tribute to a pioneer: Maria Assumpció Català i Poch
Coinciding with the start of the season and the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we will screen a 5-minute short film dedicated to the career of the first professional astronomer at a Spanish university. The film will review her key role in space missions such as Hipparcos and her studies of the Sun. It will be screened during general daytime and nighttime visits before the visit’s projection, throughout 2026.

3. Innovation in the “Parc dels Telescopis”
This year we take a technological leap with the commissioning of our radio telescope for the general public. This tool is revolutionary: it allows observation of objects such as the Sun even on cloudy days, ensuring that your visit is always a success.
4. New workshop “Mosaics of Light”
On the occasion of the Gaudí Year, younger visitors will be able to play with optics and light by creating mosaics inspired by the architect’s trencadís. It will take place on the first weekend of each month.

5. New experience for the general public
This spring we premiere a new nighttime experience designed for adult audiences, combining wellbeing and astronomy. The activity will begin with a yoga session at sunset, in a privileged setting overlooking Montsec. Participants will then enjoy the nighttime experience of Montsec Astronomical Park, with dark sky observation and explanations from an astronomer.
6. 100 years of planetarium history
During the spring, we inaugurate the temporary exhibition “100 years of Planetarium history.” An exhibition that celebrates the centenary of the first modern planetarium (Munich, 1925) and its evolution to the current 3D technologies we enjoy today in our “Ull del Montsec.”
7. More facilities for groups and schools
In addition, Montsec Astronomical Park will expand its range of available dates for booked groups (schools and other collectives) by offering Mondays—previously completely closed—in order to meet growing demand, especially from schools, during spring and autumn periods.
8. The Astronomical Park visits you
Montsec Astronomical Park will carry out observation activities in other FGC TURISME locations. These are already taking place monthly in Vall de Núria and twice a year in Boí Taüll, as an action to promote the Montsec Astronomical Park and highlight the dark sky available in the Pre-Pyrenees and the Catalan Pyrenees.
As part of the FGC TURISME network, the Montsec Astronomical Park continues to lead the protection of the dark sky and sustainability. We hold ISO 14001 certification and aerothermal and solar panel systems that guarantee responsible management of our natural environment.
