The Montsec Astronomical Park is mobilizing across the region and offering special activities to follow the solar eclipse on August 12

Total solar eclipses are events of great scientific interest and a magnificent opportunity to promote scientific culture. For this reason, the Parc Astronòmic del Montsec (PAM) has organized a range of activities to foster astrotourism, bring science closer to the public, and inspire an interest in scientific careers through a natural phenomenon.

As a leading center for astronomy outreach, the Parc Astronòmic del Montsec is deploying all necessary resources to ensure the public can view the eclipse safely and securely.

Presence in various locations across Catalonia

In Lleida, the center’s technical team will be stationed near the Mangraners football field on Carrer Vila-rodona—an elevated, unobstructed, and ideal spot for viewing the eclipse—as well as at Turó de la Seu Vella (specifically at the King’s Castle/La Suda and the King’s Bastion, the highest points on the western slope). The PAM will also collaborate with the Les Borges Blanques City Council, providing scientific support at their observation point.

In the Terres de l’Ebre region, a joint team from the Parc Astronòmic del Montsec, Plataforma Vèrtices, and the Ebro Observatory has organized a series of activities for viewing the eclipse at the Observatory’s headquarters in Roquetes. The program features educational talks, solar observations, family workshops, astronomy activities for all ages, and opportunities to meet with researchers and science communicators.

Due to the Observatory’s limited capacity, the public will not be permitted to enter the facilities on the day of the eclipse. However, the Parc Astronòmic del Montsec team, in coordination with the Ebro Observatory, will broadcast a live stream of the event’s progression via their YouTube channels. This initiative aims to bring this extraordinary astronomical event to the general public, allowing people anywhere in the world to follow it in real time.

The La Molina and Vall de Núria mountain resorts also offer experiences where the eclipse can be viewed in its partial phase

Alongside the events at the Montsec Astronomical Park, the La Molina and Vall de Núria mountain resorts—managed by the Railways of the Generalitat of Catalonia (FGC)—are organizing various activities to closely follow and enjoy the solar eclipse on Wednesday, August 12.

La Molina invites guests to enjoy an unforgettable evening at the Niu de l’Àliga, a special experience allowing them to view the phenomenon from a prime location at an altitude of 2,537 meters. The resort will provide a ride up to the mountain hut via the Cadí-Moixeró gondola lift for the partial eclipse viewing, which is scheduled to begin at 7:33 PM and end at 8:58 PM. The experience includes certified safety glasses for viewing the phenomenon, a vermouth aperitif, mountain cuisine, and musical accompaniment by saxophonist Xesco Bruno and the group Mountains of Music.

The resort offers various packages for this experience, which can be booked exclusively online until August 10 or until all spots are filled.

Meanwhile, the Vall de Núria resort offers guests staying at the Vall de Núria Hotel and the Vall de Núria Hostel the chance to join a group viewing of the solar eclipse from the esplanade in front of the hostel. At 7:00 PM, participants will take the Coma del Clot cable car up to the esplanade at the Núria Xanascat Hostel, where they will receive certified special glasses to ensure safe viewing of the solar eclipse. The cable car service will be available for the return trip down until 8:45 PM.
